Quarterback Training at Home
How young quarterbacks can train at home with minimal equipment. Drills for mechanics, footwork, and accuracy in your backyard.
You Don't Need a Field to Get Better
Many of the most important quarterback skills can be developed at home with just a football and a wall. Here's how to make home training effective.
Home Training Essentials
All you need:
- A football
- A wall (for throwing)
- A small open space
- Optional: cones, agility ladder
Best At-Home QB Drills
Wall Throw Release Drill
Stand 5 feet from a wall and practice your throwing motion. Focus on a smooth release and follow-through. Great for building muscle memory.
Knee Throwing Drill
Kneel on both knees and throw to a target. Isolates upper-body mechanics and arm motion without needing a full field.
Mirror Drill (Footwork)
Practice your drops and footwork in place, using a mirror or phone camera to check your form.
Ball Security
Practice holding the ball high-and-tight while moving around your yard. Builds fumble-prevention habits.
Mental Training
Film study, visualization, and coverage recognition can all be done at home with a notebook and film access.
Building a Home Routine
A good home session:
- Warm-up (3 min) — Light jog and dynamic stretches
- Mechanics (8 min) — Wall throws and knee throws
- Footwork (8 min) — Drops and ladder work
- Mental (5 min) — Visualization or film study
